How the estimate works, where the data comes from, and what happens at block 1,000,000.
There is no fixed date. Our estimate starts at the latest block’s timestamp and adds 10 minutes for each remaining block. It updates as the chain grows. Real blocks can arrive seconds or hours apart, so treat this as an estimate, not a calendar appointment.
No. One million is a cultural milestone, not a protocol change. The block subsidy at height 1,000,000 is 3.125 BTC, plus transaction fees. The next halving is at height 1,050,000, when the subsidy becomes 1.5625 BTC.
Bitcoin begins with the genesis block at height 0. Height 1,000,000 is therefore the 1,000,001st block including genesis. This site celebrates the block labeled 1,000,000, the number you will see in a block explorer.
We read the active Bitcoin chain from mempool.space, with Blockstream as a fallback. The site checks every 30 seconds while visible. If fresh data is unavailable, we keep the last known values and clearly label them. Network statistics come from mempool.space; the transaction backlog can fall back to Blockstream. Network data is refreshed every minute, with hashrate history cached for 10 minutes. The block-drop preview never changes real data.
